Press Freedom Forum
An annual event focussing on the repression of journalists in one country.
The main objective of this programme is to raise public awareness of, and find solutions to, the many problems of harassment and censorship facing most journalists in the target countries. The project would bring together journalists, who themselves are, or have been, victims of these problems; press freedom and human rights campaigners; as well as other professionals with legal and human rights backgrounds, to share their experience and strategies with the ultimate aim of finding lasting solutions to the problems.
By encouraging these exchanges, this project aims to keep the issue of press freedom against the backdrop of most authorities’ concerns of public order and state security constantly on the agenda; this is needed for the continued search for solutions in promoting a free press environment in the target countries. These exchanges will also ensure that the public can benefit from the vast reservoir of expert knowledge about the problems of press freedom, conflict and other social crises in the target countries. They will compliment initiatives done by in country press campaign groups and journalists.
